  • From the FieldJenifer Neils, the Elsie B. Smith Professor in the Liberal Arts in the Department of Classics at Case Western Reserve University, is the new Director of the American School, beginning July 2017. An internationally renowned scholar in classics and art history, her work on the Parthenon has earned her the reputation as one of the world’s most established authorities on the monument. Prof. Neils shares here her perspectives on the School, Hellenic studies, and Greece as she prepares for the post.

  • From the FieldThe Ancient Agora of Athens is considered by all, locals and tourists, to be a small oasis in the center of the city. Strolling in the largest archaeological park of Athens, in the shade of tall oaks, planes, and olives, we hardly realize how much effort was devoted to landscaping the site in the early 1950s. That was a major undertaking, one comparable to the reconstruction of the Stoa of Attalos itself. One only needs to see before-and-after photos in order to grasp the magnitude of this achievement.

  • Excavations Conservation 2017
  • From the FieldOur conservation technician interns have successfully finished their training at Corinth Excavations. For the past six months, the students gained experience on a range of tasks, from lifting and mending terracotta floor tiles from the Frankish Area to carefully excavating a medieval skeleton.
